12 weeks. That’s how quickly the start numbers for Copenhagen Marathon 2025 went on sale before the organizers had to announce that everything was sold out. This makes it the fastest sold-out marathon in the history of the Copenhagen Marathon – and the biggest marathon on Danish soil ever
Sunday evening, the last bib for Copenhagen Marathon 2025 was sold. In just 12 weeks, all 18,000 entry spots for the Copenhagen Marathon 2025 were snapped up more than eight months before race day, setting a double record.
Never before have so many entry spots been sold for the race, nor has it sold out so quickly.
This broke the record set by the Copenhagen Marathon 2024, where it sold out with 15,000 participants three months before the race.
On May 11 2025, 18,000 runners can look forward to participating in the largest marathon ever held on Danish soil.
The interest doesn’t surprise Dorte Vibjerg, CEO of Sparta Athletics & Running, which organizes the Copenhagen Marathon. It reflects a trend seen in recent years, where races like the CPH Half, DHL Relay, and Royal Run have also sold out at record speed.
“This year, we have also noticed a great interest from foreign tour operators purchasing entries for the Copenhagen Marathon. It’s a good sign that Copenhagen is establishing itself as a city worth visiting – with or without running shoes. This is precisely the message we, together with Wonderful Copenhagen, have been working to spread globally,” says Dorte Vibjerg.
Marathon for Employees
Another area where the organizers experience growing interest is from private companies. Many have started purchasing entry spots for their employees as a staff benefit. While the training benefits employees physically, it also significantly strengthens social bonds in the workplace, as they share a common goal, and companies often arrange group training sessions.
Moreover, the Copenhagen Marathon has established itself as the annual running festival that you don’t want to miss out on. It’s where you meet up with running friends from near and far to enjoy a great day together in running shoes – both in the streets of Copenhagen and later in Fælledparken. It’s a celebration that is set to become even bigger in the coming years.
“Our ambition is to grow even larger and to position ourselves just below major races like the Berlin Marathon and London Marathon. But it has to happen at a pace where the logistics and the participants’ experience can keep up,” says Dorte Vibjerg and continues:’
“So, even though we could easily continue selling entries, we’ve capped the number of participants at 18,000. We are now preparing for an amazing and historic marathon. It will be a memorable experience in every way.”
