Copenhagen Marathon 2025 winner under suspicion of doping

At the Copenhagen Marathon on Sunday, May 11, 2025, it was Berhane Tesfay from Eritrea who crossed the finish line first with a time of 2:08:25. He was therefore crowned the winner ahead of Vincent Mutai from Kenya, who finished 44 seconds behind Tesfay.

This week, the result of Tesfay’s post-race doping test was published, and he tested positive for the banned substance EPO. Consequently, Tesfay has now been provisionally suspended.

The case is not yet closed. Once the case is closed, and in case he gets banned, Tesfay will be disqualified, and the runner-up will be recorded as the official winner of the race.

We await the final ruling in the case.
