Copenhagen Marathon will once again set the stage for celebration and elite competition as the country’s best marathon runners chase national championship medals in 2026.
When Copenhagen Marathon fills the streets of the capital with runners, music, and cheering spectators on 10 May 2026, it will come with an added layer of intensity.
A truly special vibe
The Danish Marathon Championships are returning to Copenhagen, creating a “festival within the festival” as the nation’s fastest men and women lead thousands of runners from around the world through the vibrant streets.
With DM (Danish Championship) status, Copenhagen Marathon once again becomes the national gathering point for Danish marathon running. The course through Copenhagen and Frederiksberg is known for being flat and fast, and the entertainment, atmosphere, and support along the route match some of the biggest marathons in the world.
“Copenhagen Marathon is already an incredible running celebration with a very special atmosphere. With the Danish Championships and so many talented elite athletes on the start line, the event reaches an even higher level. We are truly looking forward to sending all DM participants off from the start line – and welcoming the winners at the finish,” says Dorte Vibjerg, CEO of Sparta Athletics & Running.
The best of the best
The Danish Marathon Championships will take place as part of the main event over the classic 42.195 kilometres. For both men and women, the competition includes the senior category as well as the masters category (30+) — both individually and in teams.
So spectators should get ready to warm up their hands, as there will be plenty to cheer for when the runners reach the finish.
“For spectators, the DM at Copenhagen Marathon is a unique opportunity to get up close to the very best in Danish long-distance running. And for the elite, the event offers ideal conditions with a fast course, strong competition, and perfect timing in the season. It is, quite simply, a superb springboard for those aiming to make their mark nationally and internationally,” says Dorte Vibjerg.
