Venice and Nice have it, and now Copenhagen has it too. The Telenor Copenhagen Marathon has received the International Associations of Athletics’ prestigious Road Race Bronze Label.
“The IAAF Label Road Races programme recognizes the world’s leading road races. An IAAF Label denotes superior standards in event organisation, safety, and runner experience, while also categorizing the best elite races, providing a guide for athletes, fans and media to the world’s finest competitions.”
These are some of the demands required to become a certified IAAF road race label event, explains the president of the IAAF, Sebastian Coe. Demands, which the Telenor Copenhagen Marathon now officially fulfills.
Moreover, the IAAF label also denotes the full application of the IAAF competition rules, the local government’s support for the event, a commitment by the organiser to the advancement of the sport, and concrete steps in the global fight against doping.
Important objective fulfilled
During the past two years, the organizers of the Telenor Copenhagen Marathon have worked together with the municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg, the official tourism organization Wonderful Copenhagen, Sport Event Denmark, and the Danish Athletics Federation to obtain the IAAF bronze label.
“This is an important recognition, because it shows us, that our marathon holds high international standards. Further, it is an acknowledgement of the work we and our partners have put into the development of the event, which in fact attracts more and more tourists to our capital city,” says Dorte Vibjerg, CEO of Sparta Athletics & Running
Over the past few years, the course has been improved and made faster, the elite field has been strengthened, and the digital service is superb. These are some of the improvements, which have caused the IAAF to award the Telenor Copenhagen Marathon with their bronze label.
Only label marathon in the Nordic countries
The Telenor Copenhagen Marathon is now the only marathon in the Nordic countries, which appears on the prestigious list of marathon races that apply to IAAF bronze label standards.
The IAAF expresses their satisfaction that the Danish capital city now boast an official IAAF bronze label marathon event.
“We congratulate the organizers of the Telenor Copenhagen Marathon on the well-deserved bronze label and wish them and the race participants the very best for the 40th race edition next year,” says Sebastian Coe.
The Telenor Copenhagen Marathon 2019 is to be held on Sunday, May 19, starting and finishing along the harbour front at Islands Brygge.
