One of the world’s largest telecommunications companies, Telenor, has been announced as the new main sponsor of Copenhagen Marathon, which will be named Telenor Copenhagen Marathon henceforth. This new partnership will catapult Copenhagen Marathon into the world elite of running events.

The partnership between Telenor and Sparta, the organiser of Copenhagen Marathon, is a strong match which will provide a solid technological foundation in the further development and improvement of Denmark’s biggest marathon, attracting elite runners and joggers from around the globe.

Running and technology go hand in hand

Technology plays a key part in holding large-scale running events. Copenhagen Marathon already has one of the best apps for runners and spectators, and the partnership with Telenor will advance even further these technological solutions ensuring an optimal experience for participants, spectators, and the citizens of Copenhagen alike.

As a telecommunications company, we are an integral part of the running experience, as time registration and sharing pictures on social media are done on smartphones and mobile devices, says Lars Thomsen, commercial manager at Telenor.

The general manager of Sparta, Dorte Vibjerg, backs him up:

The runners can plan their training and obtain practical information, the spectators can follow their favourite runners, and the citizens can find their way through the city’s closed streets using apps and the internet. Thus, we are thrilled to bring in Telenor as a main sponsor with their technological expertise and extensive mobile network coverage which will give our runners a world class experience.

Combined forces

Lars Thomsen is looking forward to demonstrate the capabilities of Telenor’s mobile network and adds:

We provide mobile coverage to several large-scale events each summer and are looking forward to sharing our expertise with Sparta and Copenhagen Marathon.

Telenor’s mobile network and technological knowhow combined with Sparta’s years of experience in organising running events create the ideal conditions for a high quality marathon, the likes of which Denmark has never seen when the streets of Copenhagen provide the setting for the 37th version of the Copenhagen Marathon.
