Breakfast Run in Tivoli aims to support the SMIL Foundation, which works to improve the quality of life for children with serious and chronic illnesses.
More than 380 children and adults put on their running gear to take part in the Breakfast Run in Tivoli, where participants ran, walked and enjoyed themselves on an 800 meter route in the closed amusement park.
The Danish May morning was at its best, the sun peeked out and the early runners were in high spirits before, during and after the 30-minute run.
For each completed lap, Sparta donated DKK 10 to the foundation. In just 30 minutes, the participants ran so many laps that a total of DKK 21,830 was raised for the good cause.
Sparta rounded up to 25,000 DKK, and the donation was presented by Sparta’s commercial manager, Jesper Lind Andersson to Birgitte Leuranguer from SMILfonden.
Jolene, Annemijn and Quirine are three friends from the Netherlands studying in Copenhagen.
“We discovered the race on Monday and thought it would be fun to participate in such a unique run. We’ve only been to Tivoli once before,” say the three friends.
They enjoyed a croissant and coffee after the race, where they could be proud of about 6 km running after 30 minutes around Tivoli.
Jacob is warming up for his second Copenhagen Marathon by running the Breakfast Run in Tivoli with his children, dad and dad’s girlfriend.
Having seen dad pull on his running shoes many times, Freja, 4, and Alexander, 3, also wanted to try a race. And with brand new running shoes on their feet and mom’s homemade medal around their necks, it seems to be just the first of many races for the youngest generation in the running family.
Alexander, 3 years old, says he saw a motorcycle on his run around Tivoli. And big sister Freja is looking forward to the day continuing further into Tivoli, where the old roller coaster is particularly popular.
”The race was a really good experience. Lovely atmosphere and great that it’s such a family-friendly route and that it’s not about setting records, but that the children are taken into account,” says Jacob.
3-year-old Oscar held his mother, Alisa, by the hand on the run in Tivoli – the first race of his life.
They did four laps! And Oscar tells he saw ducks on the tour.
Dad and little sister were there to cheer him on and made sure the little runner was in high spirits with a beautiful homemade “Oscar” sign.
