The previous participant record was set during the 40th-anniversary celebration in 2019, with 13,278 runners participating in the Copenhagen Marathon. However, for the first time ever the organizer, Sparta Athletics & Running, saw the need to set a participant limit, and now that limit has been reached. 15,000 runners have registered for the Copenhagen Marathon on May 5, 2024.

 “It is truly significant for us to announce a sell-out for Copenhagen Marathon – and to do it almost four months before the event. The marathon has been a part of Sparta since 1980 when 995 participated in the very first edition. So, we stand on the shoulders of a great history, and we take pride in delivering a truly excellent race with world-class execution,” says CEO of Sparta Athletics & Running, Dorte Vibjerg.

 Just yesterday, Sparta also reported a sold-out status for the Copenhagen Half Marathon, taking place in September. The high interest is very positive, but it also come with responsibility, according to Dorte Vibjerg:

 “We see a great interest for our races. We are very happy and grateful about that, and we are very aware that interest comes with responsibility. We make an effort to listen to our participants, evaluate thoroughly, and constantly optimize our races to ensure the best possible experience for all parties.”
