Traffic on race day
On May 5th 2024 when the Copenhagen Marathon takes place the entire course will be closed off to all vehicle traffic between 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. However, the course section on Frederiksberg will only be closed from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
The Inner City, Nørrebro, Østerbro, Vesterbro and Frederiksberg are therefore affected by traffic alterations and parking limitations or bans throughout the day. Please use the course map to see all parking and traffic alterations on your route.
Even if the course is empty at a given time, it is not allowed to drive on the course before the barriers are removed. The streets on the marathon course will open in sections as the runners have passed by. We ask all drivers to please respect the road blocks that are maintained until it is safe to have vehicles on that specific course section again. All streets will be open at 4:30 PM at the latests.
How to get around
We urge participants as well as spectators and residents to get around by Metro, S-train or regional train, all of which will be operating at full service on race day. Please notice that several bus routes will be affected.
S-train, Metro and regional trains all stop in short walking distance of the start area.
Cyclists and pedestrians can’t walk or bike on the course but are allowed to cross the course when there are no runners. Several parts are fully fenced so you might need to move along the course to cross it. Please follow the race marshals instructions when crossing the course.
Please notice that cykelslangen from Frisketorvet to Dybbølsbro is closed for bicycles from 7 AM to 4 PM as well as Lille Langebro from 7 AM to 4 PM. Please use Langebro instead.
If possible, we recommend to use public transportation or avoid areas close to the course. It will be possible to get across the city on race day, however, please allow extra time for queuing or redirections. If possible, choose an alternative route to avoid the marathon course.
If you must drive on race day please use the course map to view all traffic restrictions on your route.
