Traffic on race day

Notice: The page is continuously updated
On May 10th 2026 when the Copenhagen Marathon takes place the entire course will be closed off to all vehicle traffic between 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, the course section on Frederiksberg will only be closed from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The Inner City, Nørrebro, Østerbro, Vesterbro and Frederiksberg are affected by traffic alterations and parking limitations or bans throughout the day. Please use the course map to see all parking and traffic alterations on your route.

Even if the course is empty at a given time, it is not allowed to drive on the course before the barriers are removed. The streets on the marathon course will open in sections as the runners have passed by. We ask all drivers to please respect the road blocks that are maintained until it is safe to have vehicles on that specific course section again. All streets will be open at 5:00 PM at the latests.

How to get around
Public transport

We urge participants as well as spectators and residents to get around by Metro, S-train or regional train, all of which will be operating at full service on race day. Please notice that several bus routes will be affected.

S-train, Metro and regional trains all stop in short walking distance of the start area.

Cyclist and pedestrian

Cyclists and pedestrians can’t walk or bike on the course but are allowed to cross the course when there are no runners. Several parts are fully fenced so you might need to move along the course to cross it. Please follow the race marshals instructions when crossing the course.

Car

If possible, we recommend to use public transportation or avoid areas close to the course. It will be possible to get across the city on race day, however, please allow extra time for queuing or redirections. If possible, choose an alternative route to avoid the marathon course.

If you must drive on race day please use the course map to view all traffic restrictions on your route.

Parking restrictions

We recommend using public transportation to get around the city or avoiding areas close to the race route on race day. It will still be possible to drive in and out of the city, but please allow extra time for traffic and detours. Whenever possible, choose a route that avoids the marathon course.

Use the route map to familiarize yourself with traffic conditions along your route if you need to drive on race day.
